about the event
Rooibos MTB is a 1-day Mountain Biking event which will take place on 26 July 2025.
There will be three distances to choose from – 80km, 55km and 30km.
The scenic routes pass over privately owned farms including district roads and are non-technical.
All routes are suitable for mountain-, gravel- and e-bikes.
Please take note that the 80km is recommended for the experienced longer distance riders
Route information
30KM Route
Rooibos MTB 30km Race is a Cycling South Africa Sanctioned event.
The 30km route promises to be an exciting challenge with only one waterpoint at 14km.
Enjoy the spectacular views of the Piekenierskloof and surroundings.
The route is suitable for mountain, gravel or e-bike.
The route is non- technical and is ideally suited for the beginner/intermediate rider with a basic level of fitness.
Note: Gravel and E-Bikes are more than welcome to enter the 30km Route, but these riders will not qualify for podium or prizes.
55KM ROUTE
Rooibos MTB 55km Race is a Cycling South Africa Sanctioned event.
The 55km route promises to be an exciting challenge as the riders will follow the route down the old Piekenierskloof Pass, enjoy the stunning views and proceed on the route at the foot of the Piekenierskloof mountains before finishing with the amazing old Piekenierskloofpass.
There will be two waterpoints, the first at approx 25km and the last one at the bottom of the pass.
Enjoy the spectacular views of the Piekenierskloof and surroundings.
The route is non-technical and suitable for mountain, gravel or e-bike.
80km Route
The route initially follows the 55km route – down the old Piekenierskloof Pass proceeding with the amazing fast and scenic 55km route.
Riders of the 80km will compete for the KING and QUEEN of the Mountain which start at the bottom and finish right on top of the old Piekenierskloofpass, before turning left to enjoy the 30km route.
Rooibos MTB 80km race is a Cycling South Africa Sanctioned event.
The scenic route passes over privately owned farms, district gravel roads and is non-technical.
There will be 4 water points en-route.
The 80km is recommended for the experienced longer distance riders.
Note: Gravel and E-Bikes are more than welcome to enter the 80km Route, but these riders will not qualify for podium or prizes.
cancellations and refunds
On any cancellation by You in writing to the Event Organiser, refunds will be payable as follows:
- 90% of Entry Fee ≥ 30 days before the Event
- 80% of Entry Fee ≥ 15 days, ≤ 29 days before the Event
- 0% of Entry Fee ≤ 14 days before the Event

FAQ
Will late entries be accepted?
The number of pre-entries will determine the acceptance of late entries. An announcement will be made 14days before the commencement of the event.
Can E-Bikes enter?
Yes, E-bikes are more than welcome to enter, but you will have your own starting group.
What is the Refund Policy?
Up and until 30 days before the commencement of the event, an admin fee of 10% will be levied.
29 Days until 15 days before the commencement of event, an admin fee of 20% will be levied.
No refunds will be made within 14 days of the commencement of the event.
Is the event a CSA Sanctioned event?
Yes, Rooibos by Carmien is a CSA Sanctioned event.
Is the event Gravel bike friendly?
Yes, the routes are most definitely Gravel Bike friendly.
